Anchorage Firefighters Union Local 1264 Endorses Sydney Scout for Anchorage Assembly, District 1
ANCHORAGE, AK – Today, the Anchorage Firefighters Union, IAFF Local 1264, announced its official endorsement of Sydney Scout for the Anchorage Assembly, District 1. Local 1264 represents more than 400 firefighters, paramedics, and dispatchers who provide emergency services across the Municipality of Anchorage. With this endorsement, IAFF joins five other labor organizations that have united in support of Scout's campaign for the Assembly.
Sydney Scout is a born-and-raised Alaskan who understands that local government is about the basics: safe streets, reliable services, and functional infrastructure. She brings a practical, no-nonsense approach to public policy that prioritizes results over political theater.
"Public safety is the foundation of a functional city," said Sydney Scout. "I am honored to have the trust of our dedicated professionals who willingly step onto the front lines every day. Beyond high praise, our firefighters and first responders deserve a representative who prioritizes competitive recruitment, modern equipment, and a secure retirement system that keeps them rooted here. On the Assembly, I will be a tireless advocate for the resources necessary to keep our response times low and our neighborhoods safe."
The Anchorage Firefighters Union chooses its endorsements based on a candidate’s grasp of public safety and their commitment to the professional standards required to protect the city.
"Anchorage firefighters are facing rising call volume, flat staffing, and long work hours, and that puts real pressure on public safety. Sydney Scout understands these challenges and, more importantly, can explain a clear, practical plan to fix them. We need leaders who turn concern into action, and that is why we are endorsing Sydney for Anchorage Assembly," said President Justin Mack of IAFF Local 1264.
Scout’s understanding of this work is deeply personal and informed by her parents’ service in the emergency room at the Alaska Native Medical Center. Growing up in a household dedicated to emergency medical care gave Scout a front-row seat to the daily sacrifices and technical challenges faced by those keeping Anchorage safe. With the backing of IAFF Local 1264, Scout is prepared to be a strong and effective voice for North Anchorage at City Hall.
