What does the Assembly do?

The Anchorage Assembly serves as the legislative body for the Municipality of Anchorage, similar to a city council.

Setting Municipal Policy: The Assembly creates and passes ordinances (local laws) and resolutions.

Approving the Budget: The Assembly is in charge of approving the annual municipal budget, which dictates how public funds are spent.

Confirming Appointments: The Assembly confirms mayoral appointments to various municipal boards and commissions, ensuring they are qualified and suitable for the positions.

Oversight and Evaluation: The Assembly evaluates the performance of municipal departments and services, ensuring they are operating efficiently and effectively.

Citizen Engagement: The Assembly provides a platform for citizens to voice their concerns, suggestions, and opinions on various municipal matters.

Who is on the Assembly?

Anchorage is divided into six geographic districts. Each district elects two Assembly members.

The Assembly is your direct line to local government. It’s where our community’s concerns get turned into real solutions — and it’s why who represents YOU matters.

I’m running to represent Assembly District 1, covering North Anchorage. Our current Assembly members are Chris Constant and Daniel Volland. I’m deeply grateful for their hard work for our community and for their support for my campaign.

Anchorage Assembly District 1 covers parts of Downtown, South Addition, Spenard, North Star, Fairview, Government Hill, Mountain View, Airport Heights, Russian Jack and Northeast neighborhoods
